The Promise of Persecution
The Promise of Persecution
Speaker: Mickey Lohr
Bible Passage: John 15:18-John 16:4
CONSIDER THIS
Who wants to be hated, raise your hand. Fascinating, even the word “hate” instills unpleasant vibes. None of us want to be hated. Far from it. We want to feel love and acceptance, a sense of belonging.
Long ago, Jesus warned us that the world would hate us. That sounds dreadful, distressful, despicable — but it’s actually a good thing! It’s evidence that we have been chosen by God. As followers of Jesus, we have been given a new identity, a new purpose, a new mission. We are no longer part of this world. Therein lies the conflict. The world hates the truth of God and all who stand for it.
Persecution is rising in America. We need to be ready. How do we respond? No need to retaliate or be spiteful. No need to retreat or remain silent. Simply share the love of Jesus.
The good news is we are not alone. Jesus has given us the Holy Spirit. He lives in us, equips us and empowers us. Our “mission impossible” is possible only through Him. Atop that, it is the Holy Spirit who opens hearts, removes blindness and breaks down barriers so that the power in witnessing rests with Him.
So don’t be surprised when persecution comes. Expect it. Be ready. Jesus said, “This will be your opportunity to tell them about Me.”
