It’s All About Jesus
Jesus was a man who claimed to be God. Think about that for a minute. If that were true, how would it change the way you thought, felt, and lived this life? At the River, we believe that Jesus is God. We take Him at His word. Because of this, everything we do is all about Jesus. And while that means you might learn some things on how to be a better person, how to have a better marriage, or how to be more fulfilled in life, that’s not really the point. Because without Jesus, none of that matters. It is because of Jesus that we can be a better person. It is through Jesus that we can have a better marriage. And true fulfillment is only found in Jesus. But all of that comes out of knowing and loving Him.
That’s why we teach from the Bible, because the Bible is all about Jesus. From Genesis to Revelation this book tells one story; His story. While there are many ‘little stories’, they all point to the big story. This is the story of a loving God who stepped into His creation – God in human flesh (that’s Jesus) – and came on a rescue mission for you and me. Jesus really is the Hero of the story. We invite you to learn more about this man who is God and how you can find forgiveness and new life in Him.
WE BELIEVE that there is one God, eternally existing in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. All are equal in power and glory. This God is Creator of all, upholds all, and governs all.
WE BELIEVE that God the Father is all powerful, personal, and perfect in holiness, wisdom, judgement and love. He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men. He hears and answers prayer. He saves from sin and death, and makes family all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
WE BELIEVE that Jesus is God’s only Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit. That He was born through a virgin birth, lived a sinless life and died in our place for our sin. Three days later, he physically rose from the dead, in victory over Satan, sin, death, and hell. He ascended into Heaven, where He is now alive and well, sitting on the throne of God ruling and reigning over all nations, cultures and peoples.
WE BELIEVE that the Holy Spirit is the very Spirit of God, here to convict the world of sin, and lead us to the Savior, Jesus. He is given as a gift to comfort, regenerate, and sanctify every believer. He empowers us to become more like Jesus and share the wonderful news about Jesus, making His name great throughout all the earth. We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ and that He is an abiding Helper, Teacher, and Guide. He gives gifts to each believer as He wills, for the building up of the church and the evangelism of the lost.
WE BELIEVE that all people are, by nature, separated from God and responsible for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption and forgiveness are freely offered to all by grace through faith in Jesus. When a person repents of sin and accepts Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord and trusting Him to save, that person is immediately born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit, all his/her sins are forgiven, and that person becomes a child of God destined to spend eternity with Him in Heaven forever.
WE BELIEVE that the only true basis of Christian fellowship is Crist’s unconditional love, which is greater than any differences we possess, and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians.
WE BELIEVE we were created to worship, and worship if God should be spiritual. Therefore, we remain flexible and yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct our worship.
WE BELIEVE worship of God should be inspirational. Therefore, we give great place to music in our worship.
WE BELIEVE worship of God should be intelligent. Therefore, our services are designed with great emphasis upon the teaching of the Word of God that He might instruct us how He should be worshipped.
WE BELIEVE worship of God should be fruitful. Therefore, we look for His love in our lives as the supreme manifestation that we have been truly worshipping Him.
WE BELIEVE that the bible really is the Book that God wrote. All scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the Word of God, fully inspired without error in the original manuscripts.
WE BELIEVE that Jesus Christ committed two ordinances to the Church: 1)Baptism, and 2) Communion. We believe in Baptism by immersion and that the Communion Jesus invites all who will come to Him to His table.
WE BELIEVE in the personal, visible return of Jesus Christ to the earth and the establishment of His Kingdom; the resurrection of the body; the final judgement and eternal blessing of the righteous and endless suffering for the wicked.
