Summary of Revelation 9

A star has fallen from heaven. Locusts arrive from a bottomless pit and the description of the locusts and the leader of the locusts are given. We are warned that the worst is yet to come. The sixth trumpet sounds and releases an army of destruction. Next, the angels and their mission is explained and a description of the army led by these angels are given. After this, the response of man is described.

Takeaways

  • God’s heart is for Grace over Judgement. Jesus, God’s only Son, gave his life to become our sin, atone for it all, and remove the threat of eternal separation from God, or death. He rose that we might be raised from the death of this world to live with Him in His heavenly kingdom in eternal joy worshiping the creator of the universe who’s love for us in boundless.
  • There is no more condemnation for we who believe in Christ and we need to live our lives as “redeemed”.
  • The greatest thing we can do is trust in Jesus and obey His commands, to love the Lord with all our heart, mind and strength and love one another.
  • And, if we love Him, we will share His Gospel with all we meet who will listen.

One Couldn’t Help But Ask…

  1. Did you think the things brought on by the fifth & sixth trumpet were to be taken literally, figuratively or some combination of the two?
  2. If the locusts were released by Satan, the fallen star, why would they attack the unmarked people, the followers of Satan? And, why five months? And the four fallen angels bound at the Euphrates, they also attack the followers of Satan. Is there no honor among Satan and his followers?
  3. Revelation nine mentions “the seal of God” on people’s foreheads. When does this marking appear and what does it look like? How do we assure that we will have the mark?
  4. If God’s heart is filled with grace over judgement, why the apocalyptic ending?
