Bible Passage: Galatians 6:11-18

CONSIDER THIS

Three boys are bragging about their fathers. The first boy says, “My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, calls it poetry and they give him $50.” The second boy says, “That’s nothing. My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a song, and they give him $100.” The third boy boasts, “I got you both beat. My dad scribbles a few words on a piece of paper, he calls it a sermon. And it takes eight people to collect all the money!”

We all boast about something. It could be our accomplishments, popularity, intellect, appearance, pocketbook. You fill in the blank. It’s a “Look at me” mentality. The apostle Paul encourages us, “If we have to boast, boast in the cross.” Boast in what Jesus did for us. Boast in His grace.

Honestly, religion is about what we do for God. The cross is about what God did for us. Religion wants to try to make you a better person. Jesus wants to make you a new person. Religion attempts to make bad people, good. Jesus came to make dead people, alive. Jesus gifts us with a finished work. He fulfilled the law for us. It’s time to bid farewell to the burden of religion. Gone is the fear that having done everything, we might not have done enough. Trust in God. Jesus did it all for us. This is the purpose of the cross. It’s all about Jesus. He is the One that matters. It’s something to boast about.
