Remaining Faithful in the Face of Opposition

Remember the little pink Energizer Bunny playing the drum? It just keeps on going and going and going. Kinda like Paul and Barnabas. Look at what happens to them on their first missionary journey. If this was me, I might have said to myself, “We get confronted by the sorcerer Elymas, John Mark leaves us, we get driven out from multiple cities, they try to worship us in one place, and stone me in another. Perhaps we’re not doing what God wants us to do.” But this doesn’t stop them at all. They remained faithful in the face of opposition. And so can we.

But it’s really not about us. Yes, we can expect opposition. Yes, we need to remain faithful, no matter what we face. Throughout their journey, Paul and Barnabas focused on God’s faithfulness, not their own achievements. They created great footsteps to follow in, but Jesus is our ultimate example. He always remains faithful, even as He endured the cross for us. It’s because He could not be stopped, that you and I are rescued. He endured the ultimate opposition and suffering so the door of faith could be open to all.

It’s God’s message, God’s grace, God’s power. The result? Lives are changed. He starts it, He finishes it, and He gets the praise! God is the faithful One. He always comes through.
