CONSIDER THIS

As the story goes, there was a college student who worked at a hotel for the summer, a job that proved to be most difficult. Customers demanded their luggage to be dropped off, picked up, unpacked; they demanded towels and hair dryers and more little soaps. The demands never stopped. The job was barely manageable with all the running around, here and there, up and down and all around. And then tourist season hit. He could never keep up with all the keys. So many keys. Too many keys. So he talked to his supervisor to explain his problem. “What? Didn’t we give you a master key when we hired you? How can that be?” The young fellow was then given a master key that opened every room in the hotel. That fixed everything.

So it is with the Law. Its demands can never be met. It causes us to run in circles:

  • It condemns, but does not convert
  • It challenges, but does not change
  • It points the finger, but it does not give mercy
  • It leaves us without excuse, but it points us to Jesus

And that’s the point here. Jesus is the master key. Faith in Jesus unlocks all of God’s promises and blessings. Even so long ago, God established a promise with Abraham, an everlasting promise. It’s eternal. Even for today. It’s free and unconditional. No strings attached. God is the only One who could break it. And He never will.

God’s promise remains. It’s still in place to all who believe.
