Open Doors & Opportunities
Bible Passage: Acts 24:1-21
CONSIDER THIS
Alexander wakes up with gum in his hair, trips on the skateboard, finds no prize in his cereal box, the dentist finds a cavity, eats lima beans for dinner, sees kissing on TV, and his bath is too hot, among other things — he experiences his most “terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day.” Perhaps you’ve read the book. Perhaps you’ve experienced a day like this yourself. What do you do?
Be like Paul. Here he is, arrested, bound in chains, thrown in prison, and now facing a courtroom full of people opposed to him, complete with false charges and accusations, looking for a death sentence.. Does he try to escape, run away, pray to get out of this situation? No!
Paul always looks for open doors and God-given opportunities to share about Jesus. It’s no different now, even as he’s standing in court, in chains wearing an orange tunic. He stands up for Jesus — and tells the judge he is indeed guilty, confessing, “I follow Jesus, worship God, believe the Scripture, and have the hope of the resurrection — I know the resurrected Savior!” Nothing stops Paul from boldly sharing the truth.
The call of the Christian life is not to escape terrible, horrible, no good, very bad circumstances. When the world runs out of hope, that’s when we run in. Be looking! We are on mission with Him here, to share His message with everyone at every opportunity. The most difficult times on this earth, are the greatest opportunities!
