Empowered for Jesus' Mission
Empowered for Jesus' Mission

Bible Passage: Acts 1:4-11
CONSIDER THIS
The Gossamer Albatross — a human-powered aircraft using pedals to drive a large two-bladed propeller — successfully completed a crossing of the English Channel on June 12, 1979. Amateur cyclist and pilot Bryan Allen left England, taking 2 hours 49 minutes to cross the 22.2 mile expanse, reaching a top speed of 18 mph and an average altitude of 5 feet. Needless to say, he was exhausted, dehydrated and had severe leg cramps when he landed on the French Coast. No one could maintain that sort of energy for very long so it makes sense that man-powered flight never got off the ground, in more ways than one.
When Jesus calls us to be His disciples, He knows us. He knows we are inadequate and ordinary. He knows our lives are sometimes messy and exhausting. He knows we need an ever-present Helper. That’s why Jesus knew way back then He had to return to His Father so His Spirit could be sent to empower us to be His witnesses.
The same promise — the same power — that was given to first century believers is given to us! This is not something God used to do. It’s what He still does!
God wants His Holy Spirit to permeate our lives in *every* area. His thoughts become our thoughts. His ways become our ways. His heart affects our heart. His mission becomes our mission.
No excuses now. He’s the One who gives us the ability. He invites us to join Him on His mission and equips us to impact our world with His message. Because of His Spirit, we can do this! Let’s be about Kingdom business until Jesus returns!
