Bible Passage: Jonah 2

CONSIDER THIS

Look at Jonah in the fish’s belly. Imagine utter darkness, claustrophobia beyond measure, surrounded by gastric juices, rotten fish, slime and seaweed wrapped around his head. A place of deep despair — a desperately dark day for Jonah.

For three days God left him there. For three days Jonah sat smothered by the stench and stark reality of what he had done. And then he does the only thing he can do: Jonah prays. Ultimately Jonah recognizes God alone is his salvation. And salvation he gets. Before he can say amen, the belly heaves, the fish belches, and Jonah lands on the beach.

The Savior was not the fish, it is the One who sent the fish.

We are Jonah. We have a Savior who meets with us in the depths and darkness and despair — and promises that He is with us. Always. With Him, we can get through anything. He is the One who will deliver us. Our salvation comes from God alone.

Like Jonah, you may have been running as far as you could away from Him but honestly, look behind you — you haven’t gotten far because HE has been pursuing you all along. So now is the time. Stop running and turn to Him. He’s standing so close. Embrace Him. Trust Him. Worship Him. You are never alone.
