Chosen by Grace

CONSIDER THIS

Think of Deuteronomy as a “greatest hits” compilation of the first four Bible books. Israel is camped on the plains of Moab, right on the edge of the Promised Land. Moses has a lot to say — his final, passionate words before he passes the torch. It’s essentially a three-sermon-series spoken over forty days.

He reminds the people how God rescued them, reviews the laws designed to set them apart as holy, and encourages them to love and obey only God to be blessed. Disobey and face curses and death. O swell! Who can obey 100% of the time? Nobody. We are guaranteed to fail. The law can never save us. So what can we do?

Throughout the book, we see the footprints of Jesus, pointing to Someone greater than Moses. The law drives us to realize we need a Savior. Jesus does what the law never could. It’s right there, if we look carefully: He offers grace. In three words: We are chosen, loved and redeemed.

  • God has chosen you to be His own special treasure
  • He chose you simply because the Lord loves you
  • That is why the Lord rescued you and redeemed you — through His blood on the cross

And now we have a choice. The door is open. He invites us to come — it’s an invitation, not a summons. The decision is yours.
