Killing Sin
Killing Sin
Bible Passage: Colossians 3:5-11
CONSIDER THIS
Ever see those “Out of Bounds — Stay Off This Slope” signs at the ski resort? You’d think people would pay attention, but some don’t. And then, sadly, they get caught in an avalanche — a total tragedy that could have been avoided. So it is with sin.
Here’s a warning sign in Colossians 3:5: “So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you.”
Because God loves us, He warns us of sin. You see, God’s plan is to first make us new. Then He challenges us to live as new people. We don’t have to be like we’ve always been. Those sins are not who we are anymore. We can break free from the past, from our old life, and stomp on sin.
The apostle Paul tells us to take severe measures to conquer sin — to kill it! — and remove it from our lives. We should not play with sin, linger in sin, or give it a chance to live. When it rears it’s ugly head, take action. Be intentional! Take our thoughts captive. Set our minds on the things above, walk in step with the Spirit, and conquer sin by the power of His Spirit. We must put sin down before we get carried away in an avalanche.
So let’s do it! Let’s walk in freedom from sin, victorious over sin.
