How Then Should We Live Part Three

Bible Passage: Colossians 3:20 - 4:1

CONSIDER THIS

At her wedding rehearsal, a nervous bride was having a difficult time remembering all the details. The kind minister took her aside and said, “When you enter the church tomorrow, concentrate on three things. First, walking down the aisle, Halfway down, concentrate on the altar. At the end of the aisle, your groom will be waiting for you. Concentrate on him. Three things. Focus on the aisle, then look at the altar, and finally lock eyes with your man. That’s all you have to do.” That seemed to help a lot. On the day of the wedding, the beautiful bride walked flawlessly down the aisle. But people were taken aback as they heard her repeating three words as she walked, “Aisle, alter, him. Aisle alter him. I’ll alter him.” No one is sure how much success she had changing him, but there were a number of wives wishing her well that day.

If we’re serious about following Jesus, He will alter our lives. The apostle Paul tells us that living for Jesus not only impacts the way we live in this world, it also impacts our relationships. In the day that Paul wrote these words, it was indeed a different culture — women, children and slaves were treated as property. But God’s Word is still relevant for us today: Everything we do in our marriage, family, and workplace we do for the Lord. We ultimately serve Him — so when we serve each other from our heart, we are doing it for the Lord, not for people. That’s how He alters us

And that’s how we show the world what God’s love looks like.
