Book: Hosea

Bible Passage: Hosea 1-3

CONSIDER THIS

Hosea is a wild, heart-wrenching story about God’s unstoppable love. If you’ve ever felt like you’ve messed up too many times for God to still care, this story proves that Jesus never gives up on us.

Long story short, God tells the prophet Hosea to marry a woman named Gomer, knowing she is going to be unfaithful. And she is. She runs away, chases after other lovers, and falls into an utterly broken lifestyle.

It’s easy to look at Gomer and shake our heads. But honestly? We are all Gomer. We all chase after things that we shouldn’t and leave God behind in the dust.

But the story doesn’t end there. God tells Hosea to track down his wife, buy her back out of slavery, and bring her home.

Hosea’s relentless love story is a picture of what Jesus did for us. He doesn’t cross His arms and wait for us to clean up our act, crawling back to Him in disgrace. Instead, He meets us right where we are, paying the ultimate price on the cross to buy us back. Think of Him stepping right into our corrupt world, reaching out and saying, “I still want you.”

Next time we feel like we’ve wandered too far, remember Hosea. God’s love isn’t based on how good we are — it’s based on how good He is.
