CONSIDER THIS

A famous pianist was in the wings, preparing for his grand entrance at a high-society concert. The elite were engaging in hushed conversations with each other. And then there’s the fidgety nine-year-old boy. He slips away to the stage, places his small fingers on the keys of the grand Steinway and starts playing “Chopsticks.” The crowd goes berserk. But the master composer quietly scoots in, sitting beside the wee lad and begins to improvise a lovely melody to enhance the childhood tune. The audience is enchanted. As they play together, the composer whispers in the boy’s ear, “Keep going, don’t quit, keep playing, you’re doing great, don’t give up…”

In his final words to the elders at the Ephesian church, the apostle Paul tells them similar words, “Don’t shrink back! Continue being courageous, humble, and faithful. Guard the Truth. Share the Good News. Trust in God’s grace. Don’t give up!”.

The same words are still true for us today as we serve the Lord.

Our playing “Chopsticks” may not be impressing anyone. About the time we’re ready to give up, we hear the Master step in and say, “Keep going, don’t stop, don’t give up.”
