Where Is the Lamb?

Bible Passage: Genesis 22

CONSIDER THIS

Boy, this story just doesn’t make sense. God promises Abraham a son named Isaac, even in his old age. And through this “son of promise” the people of Israel would become a great nation. And it happened!

But then God says, “Take your son, your only son, to the place I tell you. And sacrifice him.”

How do you reconcile those two things? Abraham didn’t know the end of the story, but Abraham did know God. And responds by trusting Him. But the story isn’t about Abraham’s faith. It’s about God’s faithfulness. Where’s the lamb? He knew the Lord will provide. And He did!

Isaac asked the question that echoes through history. Where is the Lamb? About 2000 years later, John the Baptist answers the question, as he points to Jesus, “Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”

Just like Isaac, Jesus is the beloved, one-and-only Son, who obeys His Father and carries the wooden cross, up the hill to the ultimate place of sacrifice, the very same mountain where “The Lord shall provide.” Where is the Lamb? Look, it’s Jesus!
