The Wisdom of God
The Wisdom of God
Bible Passage: Proverbs
CONSIDER THIS
In a dream, God offers King Solomon anything he wants. Instead of cashing in on wealth or power, he humbly asks for wisdom. God loves this, and grants him unparalleled wisdom, making him the wisest man in history. He is credited with writing 3000 wise sayings and over a thousand songs. Many look at Proverbs as their life coach and how to live a better life. But Proverbs is so much more than that. It presents two paths: wisdom and folly, ultimately providing us wisdom for life so we can make good and wise choices. If we’re honest, we’ve all played the fool at some point. Every time, it highlights our need for a Savior.
Centuries before Jesus shows up on earth, a guy named Agur steps in and writes Proverbs 30. He writes words like “I am weary and worn out and stupid! And I don’t know God…” and then asks some mind-bending riddles: Who climbed into heaven and came back down? Who controls the wind, wraps the water in a cloak, and sets the earth’s boundaries? What is His name? and the name of His Son? Tell me if you know.
The name of His Son is Jesus — He’s the One who has become wisdom for us. You see? It’s Jesus living in us — all of God’s wisdom dwells in us! Proverbs now becomes not what we can do but who we are in Jesus. And we come to realize the wisdom Proverbs demands is the wisdom Jesus provides to know Him.
