Book: Joel

Bible Passage: Joel 1-2

CONSIDER THIS

Joel starts out in a dark place. He’s looking at a massive plague of locusts that has completely stripped the land bare. There’s no food, no wine, and no joy. It looks like game over.

But right in the middle of the wreckage, Joel gives us a wake up call, “Turn to Me now, while there is still time. Give Me your hearts. Return to the Lord your God — and come on home.”

Joel is giving us a spoiler alert about who God is. He points directly to the heart of Jesus by reminding everyone that God isn’t looking to crush us when we mess up or go through hard times. He is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.

When life feels like a wasteland, Joel reminds us that a locust season is never the final chapter. Jesus specializes in taking empty, ruined spaces and filling them back up with  Himself — giving us life, joy, and purpose. If you’re feeling empty today, turn your heart back toward Him. Come on home. He’s already waiting with open arms.
