A Light in the Darkness

Book: Isaiah

Bible Passage: Isaiah 9:1-7

CONSIDER THIS

The people were in great despair — facing invasion, gloom and oppression, quite literally walking in the shadow of death. But the prophet Isaiah promises a great light will break through the darkness. God steps in to bring a joy and peace that completely replaces the chaos.

Then comes the crescendo: the promise of a Child, a Son who will rule forever, a Savior who is our Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace.

Here Isaiah is talking about a literal baby, and he’s also pointing us to our Savior, Lord and King. In a world darkened by sin, God has a plan — and fulfills His plan of redemption by sending His Son, who will be an everlasting king and establish an everlasting kingdom of joy and righteousness, justice and peace.

Today, when our world feels overwhelmingly dark, messy and unpredictable, we can lean on the reality that this Child was born for us, bringing light and peace to our specific situation, providing exactly what we need exactly when we need it. The light that breaks through our darkness comes as a gift of grace.
