A Just and Merciful King
A Just and Merciful King
Bible Passage: Micah 5:1-5
CONSIDER THIS
The prophet Micah delivers a powerful message, kinda like a courtroom trial. He lays out the charges and judgment against Israel, alongside breathtaking promises of forgiveness and restoration. It raises a profound question: how can absolute justice and radical mercy exist side by side?
We can find the answer as we dig into the book of Micah, discovering Jesus on nearly every page.
Long before the Christmas star appears, Micah predicts a King is coming who will rule with justice and mercy, pointing straight to the tiny, insignificant village of Bethlehem. God loves using the small, the overlooked, and the fragile.
In Micah’s day, leaders were incredibly corrupt — preying on the poor, chasing power, and lining their own pockets. God’s answer to such leaders is a King who will shepherd His people, providing security and stability in their topsy-turvy world.
God promises this King will be our peace. To have His peace we need to be reconciled with God. How does this happen? True justice means our sin can’t be swept under the rug. Instead of tossing justice aside to show mercy, Jesus perfectly satisfies both. Micah paints a picture of God hurling our guilt into a bottomless ocean. That life-changing tidal-wave of forgiveness is secured for us through His cross.
The promised King has come. He is the King of Kings, the Shepherd who lays down His life for His sheep, the Savior who reconciles us to God, the King who reigns forever. Jesus is our just and mercy-filled King.
